Project Description

In 2005, I qualified with a Masters in Ethnobotany from the University of Kent. This qualification has allowed me to have a human perspective when speaking about environmental and climate change issues. I am passionate about coming up with innovative solutions to face our toughest global problems and often speak of the need for urgent responses. As a Climate Change Specialist I offer technical advice on developing programmes which focus on climate change adaptation at the local level. Although I do not get to the field as much as I used to, I continue to help governments around the world to prepare for climate change, searching for new financing opportunities and providing strategic advice on how to take a more in-depth and long term view on national development. I work with government officials to work out how they can integrate climate change issues and human perspectives in their planning decisions.

I like forging personal connections to discover the aspirations and motivations of government officials and bringing more environmental thinking into our discussions on the complex topics in the context of the countries I find myself in.

Presently, I am helping climate change adaptation project development in Kiribati, Timor L’este, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Nepal through a US government funded project. However, although I work principally as a climate change adaptation consultant I maintain diverse interests.

I run a voter rights campaign on Facebook for Irish expatriates living abroad and occasionally throw my hand at stand up comedy. I like networking and connecting with people, am writing a fiction book which I expect to finish in 2013, have started video editing for fun, enjoy carrying out career mentoring, am trying to learn yoga and maintain diverse reading interests. As a ‘young’ professional, I know there is a great amount of change happening around the world, which will be the blueprint for positive change for the future. I want to be part of this change.

As an environmentalist focused on climate change adaptation, I will continue to help governments around the world face and address issues caused by climate change, providing strategic advice on national development.

Brian has proposed to organise a Global North-Global South Policy Exchange on Climate Change Adaptation in collaboration with Sanju Koirala (2013) and Michael Mendez (2013) with funding from the Alumni Innovation Fund.
